Mykonos

Mykonos is a popular tourist destination in the Greek islands of the Cyclades group, situated in the middle of the Aegean Sea. Mykonos is located south of Tinos, east of Syros and north of Paros and Naxos. Among the most Greek islands, Mykonos island is located almost in the center of the Cyclades complex. It is particularly famous for the cosmopolitan atmosphere, the exciting nightlife, the picturesque Cycladic architecture and the magnificent beaches that makes holidays in Mykonos a magnificent experience. There are many things to do in Mykonos Greece, an island perfect for people of all ages: walk along the narrow streets of Chora, see the sunset from Little Venice, stay in luxurious hotels and swim in exotic beaches. Iconic landmarks include a row of 16th-century windmills, which sit on a hill above Mykonos town. Super Paradise, Paradise and Kalo Livadi are fabulous places to swim and spend a day under the hot sun. In the evenings, head to Mykonos Town and enjoy a night out in the many bars and clubs. Optional excursions include a half-day ancient Delos tour, a small-group sailing yacht cruise to Rhenia Island, a half-day Mykonos tour or a wine and culture evening in Mykonos.

Hora (also known as Mykonos), the island’s well-preserved port and capital, is a warren of narrow alleyways and whitewashed buildings overlooked by the town’s famous windmills. In the heart of the waterfront Little Venice quarter, which is spectacular at sunset, tiny flower-bedecked churches jostle with glossy boutiques, and there’s a cascade of bougainvillea around every corner. High-season streets are crowded with chic stores, cool galleries, jangling jewelers and both languid and loud music bars – plus a catwalk cast of thousands.

Mykonos is famed as a cosmopolitan destination amongst the Greek islands and widely recognized as one of the great travel meccas. It is one of the most touristed islands in the Aegean. This means that visitors should be prepared for loud dance clubs on parts of the island, an option to have 'English' breakfasts that could consist of an egg, some bacon and a few rolls with butter, and some over-priced merchandise. Mykonos, along with Santorini, is more expensive than other Greek islands.

Fashion boutiques and art galleries vie for attention. Mavrogenous St is good for art, Matogliani is best for luxe brands and excellent Greek designers, while the streets of Little Venice mix fashion with jewelry and tat. Most stores close in the winter (November to March). The climate of Mykonos is characterized by hot, dry summers and mild winters. Like in most of the Aegean islands it hardly ever rains during summer but rain showers can be expected between October and April.
